Kindergarten News

Week of May 12th

Dear Kindergarten Parents,

I hope you all had a wonderful Mother’s Day!  The children had a fun time making their special gifts for you!  We hope you enjoyed them!

This week we will continue to review rhyming and sight words in class.  We will also practice reviewing letters and sounds learned.  Please be sure to set aside time each night to review certain skills with your child such as: letter and sound recognition, rhyming skills, reciting your home address and telephone number, counting by 1’s,  5’s, 10’s to 100, telling time to the hour and half hour and counting and identifying money.   It is important to reinforce these learned skills over the summer with your child to have them better grasp them.

If you have not already sent in your child’s permission slip and/or fee to ride the train, please do so by Tuesday, May 13th.   Our trip is rescheduled for Thursday, May 14th.  Please remember to brown bag a lunch for your child this day and pray for nice weather!  J

The Kindergarten students will be making a “Class of 2008” t-shirt.  We are asking that each child please send in a small, plain, white t-shirt to school by Friday, May 16th.  Please remember to label your child’s t-shirt in permanent marker.

During these next couple of weeks, kindergarteners will be preparing and practicing for our “Moving-Up” ceremony.  Because of this, I will not be assigning any more written homework after this week. This time at home with your child could be spent reviewing learned skills such as those mentioned above.  Poetry books will also be sent home this week.  These books are a great way to reinforce rhyming words, sight words, identifying punctuation, and independent reading.

Holy Child School will be having an early dismissal on Friday, May 16th, due to a faculty meeting.  The Kindergarten will be dismissed at 12:15 this day.  There will be no lunch however, please remember to pack a morning snack (1 snack, 1 juice, and napkins) for your child. Holy Child School will also be off on Monday, May 19th.  Hope to see you at the Gala on Sunday!  J

Thank you for your continuing support! I hope you have a great week!

                        Sincerely,

                  Mrs. Suzanne Cloud
